Staff Members
Ken Sande is president of Peacemaker Ministries and author of The Peacemaker, which has been translated into ten languages. He is passionate about bringing the life-changing power of the gospel and the wisdom of God's peacemaking principles into the lives of Christians and their churches. His early experience in engineering and law fueled his desire to dedicate his life to biblical peacemaking, resulting in his decision 25 years ago to found Peacemaker Ministries.
Ken has used biblical peacemaking principles to minister to parties in hundreds of conflict situations ranging from simple personal disputes to complex church, corporate, and legal conflicts. He has written numerous resources on conflict resolution and is in frequent demand as a conference speaker. His wife, Corlette, who has homeschooled their two teenagers, published a biblical peacemaking curriculum for children called The Young Peacemaker. The Sandes’ favorite family activity is hiking in the mountains near their home in Billings, Montana.
Gary Friesen is an attorney who serves as the Executive Vice President of Peacemaker Ministries and oversees the day-to-day ministry activities. He has a background in the private practice of law and has represented a variety of for-profit and nonprofit corporations. Gary is a Certified Christian Conciliator™ and has advised numerous churches, schools and foundations on how to respond to legal conflicts and develop conflict resolution systems that incorporate both biblical and legal safeguards. As the former director of the Institute for Christian Conciliation, Gary oversaw the development of the ICC advanced training programs, including the Certification Program for Certified Christian Conciliators.
Tim Pollard serves as Vice President of Distribution and Strategy for Peacemaker Ministries. Tim also serves various Christian ministries as an advisor on strategy. Tim's primary goal is to help Peacemaker Ministries and other organizations translate their mission/vision into more effective strategies, and has also worked extensively on understanding how Christian organizations should (and should not) apply commercial business practices to their Kingdom work. Prior to joining Peacemaker Ministries, Tim served as Executive Director of a US consulting firm, helping Fortune 500 companies execute best practices in the areas of strategy and marketing. Tim and his wife, Ruth, live in Billings with their four children. He is passionate about the gospel, the church, men's ministry, and fly-fishing.
Chip Zimmer serves as our Vice President of International Ministries. In this role, he oversees and coordinates the work of Peacemaker Ministries in countries outside the United States. Chip is the former Executive Director of the Christian Conciliation Service of Puget Sound in Seattle, a position he held for 6 years, and has broad experience as a mediator and a trainer. Most recently, he served with the U.S. State Department as a diplomat in the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Madagascar and Ethiopia, as well as in Washington, D.C. Chip is a lawyer by training and began his international work as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Nepal during the 1970s.
David D. Schlachter serves as the Vice President for the Institute For Christian Conciliation, overseeing the delivery of mediation and arbitration services for the resolution of conflicts and disputes, and the delivery of advanced conciliator training through the Certification Program. A Certified Christian Conciliator™ and University of Denver Law School graduate, David practiced law for 26 years in Denver, Colorado, specializing in business, real estate, and commercial litigation, before joining the Peacemaker Ministries staff. He has taught biblical peacemaking in his church, for Peacemaker Ministries, and internationally in Cambodia and Tanzania. David has served as a mediator and arbitrator in numerous cases through the Institute for Christian Conciliation, and has served on numerous Boards of Directors for other non-profit organizations and ministries.
Rick Friesen serves Peacemaker Ministries as Director of Ministry Relations. In this capacity he works with denominational leaders around the country assisting them in developing a Culture of Peace within their respective areas along with consulting and assisting individuals and churches in conflict. He is passionate about helping people live out the Gospel in their everyday lives and learn to treat others as God treats them. Rick is a Certified Christian Conciliator™ and lives with his wife of 33 years, Annette, in Billings with the youngest of their four children, Christina. Rick enjoys traveling (especially on his Harley), and sharing the grace of the gospel wherever he goes. He is currently is pursuing his M.A. in Biblical Conflict Resolution at Birmingham Theological Seminary.
Jerry Wall As the Director of Team Support for Peacemaker Ministries, Jerry and his team support the ongoing work of peacemaking teams in local churches. He is passionate to see peacemaking lived out in the context of the local church, where God desires us to be peacemakers and to live out the New Testament pattern of a “family” of God committed to living out God’s forgiveness of us before a watching world. Jerry is a graduate of Crown College and Bethel Theological Seminary. Jerry and his wife Shiela have been married for 21 years and are the parents of Erica, age 18, and Peter, age 10.
Governance - Board of Directors
Peacemaker Ministries is organized as a nonprofit corporation under the laws of Montana and has been granted §501(c)(3) tax-exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service. The ministry is governed by a nine-person Board of Directors, which does not include any members of the ministry's staff.
